Let's TALK
Face to Face Support

Thanks to Glasgow City Council’s Community Fund, SAMH is now able to offer free mental health support to communities in the North East of Glasgow until March 2023.

The aims of the project are;
•           to raise awareness around mental health issues,
•           tackle stigma and discrimination which often deters people from seeking the help they need ,
•           signposting people to local support services

We use a social prescribing model developed by the New Economics Foundation called the 5 Ways to Wellbeing to show how Being Active, Connecting, Taking Notice, Learning and Giving can also have a part to play in someone’s recovery and  self-care routines.

A key component of the project is to help put people in charge of their own means to recovery as pathways to better mental health are as unique as the circumstances and experiences that have had a bearing on people’s wellbeing.

Face to Face Community Engagement – Pop Ups and Workshops
As restrictions are easing, we are keen to rekindle our face to face engagements.
Engagement will take the form of Pop Up events and Workshops held in local community settings.
Pop Up stalls  will use games and prompts based around the 5 Ways to Wellbeing to init;iate  positive conversations about mental health and raise awareness of local support services.
Workshops will take the form of interactive sessions that will seek to inform people about how common mental health problems are, potential triggers, early warning signs and positive coping mechanisms. They will seek to build people’s resilience to look after themselves and those around them.

A Blended Approach - Virtual Drop In’s and Workshops
We can offer support online. This could be in the form of a virtual drop in where we can join a team meeting, coffee catch up or AGM and have an informal chat about mental wellbeing, introduce ourselves and the project and other forms of support that are on offer. The virtual drop in could be around topics like the Impact of Lockdown, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing or Self-care. They might also be in response to a campaign such as Mental Health Awareness Week or an event like the Big Lunch. Maybe you have a bespoke event you’d like us to join you on?

In addition to our virtual drop ins we are also offering interactive online workshops. These are around 90 minutes and run on platforms like Zoom. There are currently 21 topics on offer and they  aim to raise awareness of mental health , dispel myths and misconceptions around mental ill health and signpost people to more local support services. We also hope to encourage others to become more empowered in their own mental wellbeing so that mental health support is more proactive rather than reactive.
